C.S Lewis
The Chronicles of Narnia
***To those who don't know, this is a movie that relates to the Bible and portraits the act of Jesus Christ. Why? How? In what sense? I shall explain them in details later. The writer of this story - C.S. Lewis had passed away and inspired by his son, this movie is once again shown in the theaters all around the world. First I'll introduce the characters in the Chronicles of Narnia with its correspondence to the Biblical terms and characters. Then I shall relate them together and you will truly understand what this movie is all about.
Characters:
Jesus as 'Aslan'
Satan as 'evil white witch' The people as 'Edmund', 'Lucy', 'Peter' and 'Susan' The world that we are living in today as 'Narnia - the everlasting winter' Saints of Christ as Mr. Tunmus, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver etc.
Edmund was first captured by the witch when he trusted the witch. In the later part of the story, saved by Alsan's people, Edmund returned to the place where the rest of his siblings were. Knowing that he was wrong, he apologize and promised to be good again.
After which, the witch came wanting Edmund back for he was the traitor but Aslan refused to hand Edmund over and insist to talk with the witch privately. This is the part of the story where Aslan agreed to exchange His life for Edmund's life. Just like Christ when He agreed to die for us. (Please read 'He paid for everything' in the lower section of the blog). He wanted to talk privately with the witch as He doesn't want any of the people there to know for Aslan knew the people will not allow the witch to do so. Just like Christ who was at the verge of being crucified, He was able to summoned 10,000 angels to His rescue but He chose not to because this was the only way for Salvation to come which in this story, exchanging His life for Edmund's life (everyone's lives).
By fulfilling the promise, Aslan's willingness led Himself to the witch and later when He was captured, Aslan was mocked by the monster when all of His hair was being cut off. This part of the story corresponds when Jesus was being mocked by the people when they put the crown of thorns on His head, spitted at Him, insulting words and beatings etc. But on top of this, how did Aslan react? He acted still and obediently towards all these monsters who were mocking at Him. Just like Christ who chose to remain silent when the high priest asked Him what was the testimony that the people was bringing against Him.
When Aslan was killed by the witch or when Jesus died on the cross, Aslan rose from the dead just like Christ. The stone tablet where Aslan lied boke into half corresponds to the curtain of the temple (Mark 15:38) when it was also torn in two from top to bottom.
When Aslan was resurrected, He came forth to the war between the Good and the evil. Reviving the rest of the people who were under the spell of the witch, Alsan battled the witch with just a blow. Similarly, the second coming of Christ will be somehow like this, where Satan will be defeated by Jesus when he comes again. This time, which in reality, is coming soon. And when the day comes, all who believe in Him will be saved.
And remember, he will come at an hour when we don't expect Him. But fortunately, God is kind enough by letting us know the signs that will be coming before Christ descend. The Bible says, "For many will come in My name, claiming 'I am the Christ' and will deceived many" (Matthew 24:5) and "nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places." (Matthew 24:7) so please beware, for those who believe in His name and stands firm to the end will be saved. (Matthew 24:13). In other words not all Christians will be saved. Only those Christians who stands firm to the end will be saved.
Agape,
Eugene.
