Is What you Want you Really Want?
I have listened to an audio sermon preached by Rey C. Stedman. He said: The greatest lessons we can learnt in the spiritual life is that if we want something bad enough, God will give it to us. But we ought to be prepared to face the consequences. Its like God says, '"You may have wanted you want, but you will have to take the results along with it." This is true in everything about life. It isn't just true in the religious realm but it is true about every aspects of life. One you have made a choice, you must take the results. And this is how God deals with us in the Biblical context.
If we start hungering and thirsting after what we want, instead of relying upon God to give us what we need, we will discover that what we want is no longer what we want. Therefore, we should repent before Him and rely upon God to give us what we need.
A true story of a little girl and her father -- One day, the little girl of about 8 years of age and she said to her father, "Daddy, I want a ball-bearing skates. All the children have a ball-bearing skates and this is what I want."
And her father replied, "But dear, you do have a pair of skates."
She said,"Yes dad, I have a pair of skates but they are not ball-bearing skates. They are roller-bearing skates. And you can't go as fast on roller-bearing skates compare to the other."
As the family income was not stable, the father had no choice but to turn his daughter down. But she wouldn't let him be. That night, when her father came home from work, there was a little note at his table and he unfolded and it said, "Dear daddy, I still want the ball-bearing skates." And when he went to bed at night, there was another note pinned to his pillow. It said, "Daddy, would you buy me a ball-bearing skates?"
The father did what we would have done and he went down and bought a pair of ball-bearing skates. When he gave them to his daughter, she was delighted. She threw her arms around his father's neck and hugged, kissed and thanked him and then she put on the ball-bearing skates and started out the game down the sidewalk around the corner. That was the last time they ever saw her alive. The skates were too much for her and she slipped, hitting her head against the sidewalk. Her parents immediately sent her to hospital but she died before the night was out.
When we wanted something of God, and He seems as though He was not willing that we should have it and we kept crying out for it and insisting that we have something that was like what the others had. Is this the attitude that most of you have?
Finding a life partner is the same, you saw how wonderful other couples can be and you just want to be like them. How romantic and how lovely can it be. You and I just want it isn't it? But if God says it's still not the time, you have to bear with Him. Because there is no point acting on your own for you wanted it so badly. And if that's the case, you have to bare the results. God is never late or early, He has the perfect timing for each of us. For He always leave the best behind for His precious sons and daughters.
What others have we should not envy. What other possesses we should not want. For all we need is catered by our Lord. If others have a ball-bearing skates, be satisfied that you have a roller-bearing ones.
